Changes that I have made to my life over time in order to live a more green, sustainable life.
1. make most meals from scratch
2. make husband, daughter and my lunch to take to work or school.
3. take stainless steel coffee rather than takeaway cups
4. line dry my laundry when the weather is suitable
5. make my own laundry detergent
6. bake my own bread with a bread maker instead of supermarket bought bread
7. make my own yoghurt with yoghurt maker
8. make our own pizzas instead of takeaway pizza
9. limit eating out at restaurants to special occasions instead of once or twice a week
10. stopped drinking wine/alcohol ( decrease bottles!!)
11. borrow books from the library instead of purchasing
12. books that I really love and want to keep, I purchase second hand
13. sewing clothes for my family myself
14. sewing furnishings for my family, eg curtains, napkins, tablecloths
15. passing on things we no longer need to others who need or will use them.
16. sourcing shoes and clothing from a designer consignment shop instead of purchasing new.
17. significantly reducing the amount of new clothing and shoes purchased, (instead sourcing quality second-hand from good local sources).
18. repairing items instead of replacing when broken, eg tyre puncture, dishwasher, clothing hems, buttons, zippers etc.
19. clean with bicarb soda and vinegar
20. use cloth dishcloths for dishes instead of disposable cloths
21. Use microfibre cleaning cloths instead of disposable cleaning cloth
22. Using a Bokashi bucket for inside composting
23. Meal plan each week
24. Make a shopping list from meal plan
25. Food shop every couple of days (to cut down on food waste)
25. Buy fair trade coffee.
26. Buy loose leaf tea instead of teabags.
27. Use newspaper and spraybottle with methylated spirits (dash) and water to clean mirrors and glass surfaces and floating timber floors.
28. declutter regularly
29. set up outside compost bin
30.leave the city and move to the country
31. set up herb garden to be self sufficient in herbs
32. buy fair trade tea
33. buy gifts of experience for presents
34. purchased Diva Cup and stopped buying tampons and sanitary pads
35. set up a worm farm
36. sweep floors instead of vacuuming
37. take stainless steel water bottles with me/us when we go out.
38. buy only Australian produced fruit and vegetables to decrease food miles
You have really accomplished a greener lifestyle with your focus. I will have to see what making your own laundry soap entails!
I really like the vibe of your blog. How lucky you are to have been able to move to a more rural locale. I will definitely be reading more of your blog. Had to laugh when I read the bit about decluttering as Im just about to start that process myself.
